Today at the Clocktower we mounted a really visual and effective display commemorating victims of last year’s attacks on Gaza.
The names of hundreds of men, women and children, showing the day they died, were displayed on long strips of paper mounted on the Clock Tower. Tellingly, we didn’t have enough space for all the strips.
We also displayed copies of 30 portraits of Gazans who perished, painted by Brighton artist Kerry Beall under a banner declaring “Massacre of Gaza – Slaughter of the Innocents”.
Members of the public were obviously struck by the combination of names and faces – it really gave an idea of numbers whilst humanizing the scale.
Kerry Beall has a project to take her original portraits to the victims’ relatives in Gaza – info and how to help fund it can be found here.
