You are invited to attend the meeting of Lewes Amnesty on Thursday June 14, to hear Kiri Tunks of the Palistinian Solidarity Campaign speak on ‘Palestinian child prisoners’. This will take place at 8.00pm at the Westgate Chapel, Lewes High Street, in Lewes. There will be a short film, Kiri Tunks’s talk and a question and answer session following.
As of the end of 2011, there were over 120 Palestinian child prisoners being held in detention by Israel. Often held in solitary confinement, without their parents present at interrogation, these children, mostly fourteen to sixteen, with some much younger, have been rounded up for throwing stones at IDF soldiers, whether or not they have thrown stones. They are shackled as they come into the military detention courtrooms and mistreated during interrogation. All of this is against international law for the treatment of children in detention by the occupying power of another country or territory. This is a scandalous crime in the eyes of PSC, Amnesty, the UN and any right-thinking person.
