We’re delighted to be hosting one of the boats taking part in the current Flotilla to Gaza
Join us to welcome “Freedom” as it sails into Brighton on Tuesday June 5th
Assemble 4.00pm at Brighton Marina, Brighton BN2 5WA (next to Asda car park)
Estimated arrival time of the boat 5.00pm
“Freedom”, one of four boats sailing from Scandinavia to Gaza, will be stopping in Brighton from the 5th till the 8th of June, with a crew of activists bringing a message of solidarity to the besieged people of Gaza, and a message to the British government that its support for the 11-year illegal blockade of Gaza must end.
Their arrival in Brighton is eagerly anticipated, and we hope that supporters from near and far will join us to show support and solidarity with the crew of “Freedom” as it sails into Brighton on Tuesday June 5th.
We need a really big turnout on Tuesday, to show the crew of “Freedom” how welcome they are in Brighton, and to show the world’s media that we support this historic act of solidarity and resistance. We need lots of people, lots of noise, and a strong visual impact. Bring flags, banners, whistles, horns etc.
We have heard from the Captain of “Freedom” about his arrival time in Brighton. He is still predicting a 5pm arrival. We’ll keep our website up to date if there is any change..
Our plan is to assemble at 4pm in the open space adjacent to the Asda supermarket car park within the Marina. We will be clearly visible from the car park, with flags and banners. There is free parking in the multi-storey car park at the marina (this is different from the Asda car park), which is very near this assembly point. The number 7 bus goes to the marina from Hove, Brighton station, Brighton city centre and Kemptown. The final bus stop at the marina is very close to Asda and the assembly point.
We will walk onto the Marina Wall to wave “Freedom” into Brighton. Details of any other events on Tuesday will be announced at the assembly point.
The boat will then continue westward to its mooring point at Shoreham, about 5 miles west of Brighton. For supporters wishing to wave “Freedom” into Shoreham Harbour, the best spot will be on Kingston Beach in Shoreham, on the green adjacent to the RNLI Lighthouse (postcode BN43 6RN). The Stagecoach 700 bus from Brighton going towards Worthing stops at the lighthouse. You will have an excellent view of “Freedom” as it sails into Shoreham Harbour.
We’re also calling on all our supporters to join us to say farewell to the boat when it sails from Shoreham on the morning of Friday June 8th. Please see details in the Events section of this website.
Please see other pages on our website for the background to the Flotilla, and other events being planned around the visit.
