Zaytoun in partnership with Think Global who promote education for a fairer world, bring Fairtrade Palestinian farmer Bassema Barahmeh, and Canaan Fair Trade marketing assistant Lamis Zamzam, to Brighton to talk about Fairtrade under Fire. They will be accompanied by cooperatives expert Veena Nabar. Bassema is an olive farmer, maftoul producer and co-ordinator of the women’s cooperative in the village of Anza, where farming families rely on the livelihood offered by fairly trading their produce, in the face of severe economic and cultural restrictions imposed by the Israeil occupation.
This free event is your chance to hear from our guests about their work and experiences, and to learn more about how Fairtrade is empowering local communities.
Zaytoun products and tastings will be available on the night, as well as light refreshments created by a local Palestinian cook from Filfil.
Zaytoun is an award-winning social enterprise founded with a mission to develop the UK market for fairly traded Palestinian produce as a means to support farmers’ livelihoods and offer a voice to those enduring the isolation of the Israeli occupation.
