Supporting the struggle to achieve a just and lasting peace for Palestine
BHPSC thanks Brighton & Hove for supporting the Ecostream campaign
On Saturday July 5th, following the announcement that the Ecostream had closed, BHPSC and its many supporters thanked the people of Brighton & Hove for their magnificent support for the two-year campaign. We organised our stall, distributed leaflets and discussed the issues with the public peacefully but passionately.
We know that it was only because local people boycotted the Ecostream shop that its closure became inevitable. In fact, during our demo at the Clock Tower on the 5th of July many people stopped by the stall to express their real satisfaction that the people of Brighton & Hove had forced the shop to shut, having recognised that the shop’s environmental veneer disguised its deeply unethical character.
So, thank you Brighton & Hove! The campaign shows that consumer boycotts work: they provide an important focus for raising awareness, they mobilise support and action, and they put pressure on unacceptable business practice. We now move on to other campaigns – the tragic news from Palestine this week reminds us that there is still important work to do to bring about justice in Palestine.
