Steamer Trading Cookshop the latest company to end its business with Sodastream

Following the closure of Sodastream’s so-called ‘eco-store’ in Brighton (see reports elsewhere on this site), the focus of the campaign has turned to the other stockists in Brighton & Hove. Our objective is to heed the call from Palestinian civil society to organise boycotts of companies complicit in human rights abuses in occupied Palestine, and to make Brighton & Hove a Sodastream-free city. The remaining stockists include Robert Dyas, Argos, Lakeland, ASDA and (until recently) Steamer Trading Cookshop.

SodaStream_logo small Earlier this month, following demonstrations outside the Steamer Trading Cookshop in Brighton and a letter-writing campaign, the company informed BHPSC that it had decided to remove its stock of Sodastream products from a number of its stores, including the one in central Brighton. This is a small but significant achievement for the BDS campaign.

We shall now be turning our attention to the other stockists in the town, and we will be co-ordinating a UK-wide campaign drawing on the other branches of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign. There are PSC branches in most of the towns where Steamer Trading shops continue to stock Sodastream, and those branches are currently organising activities to draw attention to Sodastream’s role in land annexation and ethnic cleansing in occupied Palestine.

Thanks to all our supporters who have understood our message, and have not only boycotted Sodastream in Brighton & Hove, but told the management of local stockists that Sodastream is not welcome in our city.
