We are sorry to announce that due to ill health Ofer Neiman is unable to participate in the above event. In his place will be Ruth Edmonds. Like Ofer, Ruth is that rare thing, an Israeli dissident, activist and anti-Zionist. She is a member of Boycott from Within, and works as Advocacy Officer for the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD).
A brief biography of Ruth
Ruth was born in Britain and moved to Israel as a teenager with her parents in 1998. She has been an activist of long-standing and refused to serve in the Israeli army. She has had positions with New Profile, ActiveStills, the Alternative Information Centre and Ma’an Development Agency. She has been an active BDS campaigner working within Israel as a member of Boycott from Within, the BDS group co-founded by Ofer Neiman. Ruth has been with ICAHD since March 2012. Her research specialist area is settlements and displacement.
At present Ruth is also organising a Training for Transformation programme for grassroots activists and community leaders in the region with support and facilitators from the Grail Foundation in South Africa.
Content Overview
Ruth will give an introduction to the work of ICAHD and its current focus. She will speak about the political situation in Israel, Israel’s policy towards Palestinians and what activists can do to change it wherever we are in the world. She will describe what resistance is like on the ground in Israel by Israeli citizens, including BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions).
Public outrage at Israel’s unjust and brutal onslaught against the Palestinian people of Gaza has established a momentum from which to build pressure for change in Israel and there will be an opportunity to discuss with Ruth strategies for increasing that critical pressure from here in the UK to bring about a just and sustainable peace.
