Many of us – including Brighton & Hove PSC – have supported the work of Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) over many years, and in particular since October 2023.

BHPSC is honoured to be hosting two key figures in MAP’s provision of healthcare in Gaza on Friday 17th April:

Professor Nick Maynard is a Consultant Upper GI Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, and Associate Professor of Surgery at Oxford University. Nick is Chair of the Board of Trustees of MAP UK. Last year, he was awarded the Humanitarian Medal by the UK Government for his work in Gaza.

Nick will speak about his experiences leading medical missions in Gaza during the ongoing genocide – and Israel’s war on healthcare in the territory. If you’d like to read more about Nick’s work in Gaza, see this NPR interview from July 2025.

Steve Cutts is Chief Executive of MAP. Steve has previously served as Assistant Secretary-General at both the United Nations and the Commonwealth Secretariat, and Chef de Cabinet and Deputy Executive Director at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Steve will be speaking about what makes MAP’s work distinctive, focusing on its impact in Lebanon, the occupied West Bank and Gaza.

This is a fundraising event, so please bring cash or cards and donate generously, so MAP can continue its indispensable work.
